Cake Monkey has long been a favorite at Jeff’s former workplace, a go-to for birthdays and office treats. I used to hear him rave about it and never got a single slice — which made me even more eager when Cake Monkey opened an adorable pink bakeshop on Beverly Boulevard last month. We couldn’t wait to stop by and taste as many treats as possible. What sets Cake Monkey apart is its nostalgic nod to classic snacks like Ho Hos and Pop-Tarts, updated and elevated into something even better than the originals. Below are photos from our visit, but you really have to go and try their offerings yourself—plus the storefront is delightfully pink.

One charming decor detail is the wallpaper, which features recipes from the shop designer’s grandmother’s cookbook — a warm, personal touch that enhances the vintage-inspired menu. The neon sign inside adds a playful accent and makes the space feel fun and inviting.

My favorite item from the visit was their take on the classic Ho Ho — a rolled, chocolate-covered cake that captures everything you love about the original but with fresher flavors and superior texture. Other standout treats include inside-out s’mores, cakewiches, blondies, and more. Cake Monkey strikes the perfect balance between comforting, nostalgic flavors and thoughtful, modern baking techniques.

Rather than standard cupcakes, Cake Monkey offers mini layer cakes that deliver an ideal cake-to-frosting ratio. They’re small but satisfyingly layered, offering the best parts of cake without being overly sweet or heavy. These mini cakes felt like the perfect single-serve indulgence.
