How to crochet the lacy shell stitch – The Blog – US/UK

If you are just starting out with crochet, this stitch is perfect for you. Today we are going to show you how to do the lacy shell stitch. Surely you can find a thousand projects to use it for, alone or in combination with other stitches, but… do you already have a crochet market bag? This stitch is perfect for that!

For this step-by-step tutorial we used a ball of our Merifine yarn and a size 8 (5 mm) crochet hook.

Before beginning, as always, we like to give you a
list of the stitches we are going to be using in this tutorial:

Let’s
get started!

You have to start by chaining a multiple of 8 + 3.

Row 1

Start by working 5 triple crochets in the seventh chain from the hook, skip the next 3 chains, make 1 triple crochet in the next chain, *skip the next 3 chains, work 5 triple crochets in the next chain, skip the next 3 chains, work 1 triple crochet in the next chain*. Repeat from * to * until the end of the row.

Row 2

Chain 3, work 2 triple crochets in the same stitch. *Skip the next 2 stitches, work 1 triple crochet in the next stitch, skip the next 2 stitches, work 5 triple crochets in the next stitch*. Repeat from * to * until there are 6 stitches left. Skip 2 stitches, work 1 triple crochet in the next stitch, skip 2 stitches, work 3 triple crochets in the last stitch.

Row 3

Chain 3. Start the row by skipping the first 2 stitches, work 5 triple crochets in the next stitch. *Skip the next 2 stitches, work 1 triple crochet in the next stitch, skip next 2 stitches, work 5 triple crochets in the next stitch*. Repeat from * to * until there are only 3 stitches left from the previous row: skip 2 stitches, work 1 triple crochet in the next stitch.

Row 4

Chain 3. Work 2 triple crochets in the first stitch.

Continue repeating rows 3 and 4 until you reach the desired length.

It looks very pretty, doesn’t it? We are looking forward to you showing us which projects you use it for. We are always surprised by the creative community we have on social networks. With the hashtag #weareknitters you can join them.
