Did you know National Pretzel Day falls on Sunday, April 26th? Besides hunting down free pretzels, celebrate by making a fun pretzel pillow. This project is an excellent beginner sewing project — simple, satisfying, and quick. With basic supplies and a little stitching, you can create a cozy, decorative pretzel-shaped cushion. Follow the steps below for an easy, handmade accent that looks great on a chair, sofa, or as a playful gift.

Materials
- Brown fabric — cotton, polyester, or knit all work well
- White felt for “salt”
- Sewing machine and thread (hand sewing works too)
- Sewing needle
- Scissors
- Fabric glue
- Polyester stuffing

Step-by-step Instructions
- Cut a long strip of fabric about 10″ wide by 60″ long, or use the full length of your fabric. Wider or shorter strips produce a plumper pretzel; narrower or longer strips create a slimmer, larger shape.
- Fold the strip in half with right sides together and stitch along the long edge and both short ends using a 1/2″ seam allowance. Leave a 3″ opening at one end for turning and stuffing.
- Trim excess fabric from the corners close to the stitching to reduce bulk and help corners turn smoothly.
- Turn the tube right side out.
- Fill the tube with polyester stuffing. Use a yardstick or dowel to push stuffing into the ends and distribute it evenly along the length.
- Close the opening with a neat slip stitch by hand to hide the seam.
- Shape the tube into a pretzel by twisting and looping it as shown in the images. Secure the twist points and where the ends meet with a few small hand stitches so the shape holds.
- Cut small squares or irregular shapes from white felt to mimic salt crystals.
- Attach the felt “salt” pieces to the pretzel pillow using fabric glue. Press gently and allow the glue to dry fully before handling.
