You may have spotted this pattern before – I originally designed it for one of the Stash Busting Quickies collections I did with Marly Bird! It’s been a few years now, and I’ve decided that it’s time to share this pattern here on the blog as well! Plus, it’s time for me to make some more – the ones I made before all ran off to my college student’s apartment this past fall!

I know we all get excited about sweater season, but I know I’m not the only one also getting excited for *soup* season! Who doesn’t love a delicious soup, stew, or chili when it’s chilly outside – the hotter the better. The tricky part is getting it to the table without spilling or burning your fingers!
This simple Farmhouse Bowl Cozy is a great way to keep it all neat and safe! Made in 100% cotton it’s microwave safe, so you can keep your fingers unscathed and table safe from white marks at the same time! It’s a potholder and placemat in one – and handy in every household. They work up quickly with cheap and cheerful Lily Sugar’n Cream, making them a great stocking stuffer or gift this holiday season!

200-240 yards Lily Sugar’n Cream (4/Worsted; 100% cotton; 120 yds/109m)
Colorways Shown: White and Jute (1 ball each)
Gauge: 12 hdc = 4” [10 cm]
Finished Measurements: Bowl Cozy measures 8” [20.5 cm] across (Fits most standard cereal and soup bowls)

Farmhouse Bowl Cozy Instructions
With yarns held doubled, create a Magic Circle (see Video Tutorials).
Rnd 1: Ch 1, hdc 9 in circle, join with slip st in first hdc – 9 hdc.
Rnd 2: Ch 1, 2 hdc in each st around, join with slip st in first hdc – 18 hdc.
Rnd 3: Ch 1, * hdc in next st, 2 hdc in next st; repeat from * around, join with slip st in first hdc – 27 hdc.
Rnd 4: Ch 1; * 2 hdc in next st, hdc in each of next 2 sts; repeat from * around, join with slip st in first hdc – 36 hdc.
Rnd 5: Ch 1, * hdc in each of next 3 sts, 2 hdc in next st; repeat from * around, join with slip st in first hdc – 45 hdc.
Rnd 6: Ch 1, * hdc in each of next 14 sts, 2 hdc in next st; repeat from * around, join with slip st in first hdc – 48 hdc.
Rnds 7 and 8: Ch 1, hdc in each st around.
Rnd 9: Ch 1, hdc in each of next 12 sts, (hdc, ch 2, hdc) in next st, * hdc in each of next 11 sts, (hdc, ch 2, hdc) in next st; repeat from * once more, hdc in each of next 11 sts, hdc in same st as first st of round, ch 1, join with hdc in first st of round – 52 hdc, plus joining hdc.
Rnd 10: Ch 1, hdc in joining sp, * hdc in each hdc to next ch-2 sp, (hdc, ch 2, hdc) in ch-2 sp; repeat from * twice more, hdc in each hdc to joining sp, hdc in joining sp, ch 1, join with hdc in first st of round – 60 hdc, plus joining hdc.
Rnd 11: Ch 1, hdc in joining sp, * hdc in each hdc to next ch-2 sp, (hdc, ch 2, hdc) in ch-2 sp; repeat from * twice more, hdc in each hdc to joining sp, hdc in joining sp, ch 2; join with slip st in first hdc – 68 hdc.
Rnd 12: Ch 1, * sc in each hdc to next ch-2 sp, 3 sc in ch-2 sp; repeat from * 3 more times – 76 sc.
Cut yarn and seamless join (see Video Tutorials). Weave in all ends.
