Granny square blanket & knitting tutorial – CrochetObjet

In the last few weeks I’ve been working on a Granny square blanket and I am so excited about it. I also uploaded a new knitting tutorial to my channel which I wanted to share with you here today. I finished my Musselburgh hat and recorded myself so I can show you how I switch from circular needles to work on five double pointed needles. So get yourself something to drink and enjoy a Granny square and knitting blog with me.

A new granny square blanket

Granny square blanket & knitting tutorialThe idea of a new Granny square blanket came to my mind the other day when I was lying on the couch for a short and sweet afternoon nap. It was a bit chilly and I really felt like a good heavy wool-y blanket would do the job. The first vision that came across my mind was: A SIMPLE, basic, one colour, Granny Square blanket! (yes you heard it right). AND I want to have it made out of big squares.

¨

OK, that’s a lot of info to start with, isn’t it? Now what would be the right yarn for my new granny square blanket? I though of wool this time. But a soft and cosy one that will feel nice to get snuggled in for those afternoon naps on cold winter days. Something that my family and myself would love to have in hand when we lye on the couch.

¨

granny squareI made a few Granny squares out of wool I had in the studio and shared it in this video. But I wanted to try out different options before committing to a final choice. Eventually I decided to use knitting for olive heavy merino in colour Cloud. It wasn’t that easy to choose a colour but at least I knew right from the beginning that I wanted it to be a natural colour. I though of a ‘Broken White’ kinda shade.

¨

Together with one of the lovely knitters from our Monday club, we ordered a few balls of the Heavy Merino wool. Fortunately it was a very fast delivery and I started to enjoy the Granny square making. I used a 4.5 mm crochet hook.Granny square blanket & knitting tutorialAfter crocheting the first square, which took six rounds to reach the size I wanted, I asked all the lovely humans that live here with me and they all loved the feel and colour of the wool.granny square blanketEach ball of the Heavy Merino makes four squares of six rounds, with a little bit of an extra yardage left. I still need to decide on the size of the blanket that would best fit our needs and make sure I have enough yarn to complete it.

¨

First order was placed a few days ago and I can’t wait to have it here and get on the Granny square blanket making journey. Fingers crossed it’ll arrive fast this time as well. I’ll be sharing my progress with you here and I guess also on my next YouTube video. granny square blanket Meanwhile my Granny square blanket project lives in my Nina bag. Till it starts to grow.

Knitting tutorial

So this was my new Granny square blanket update and next I wanted to share the new knitting tutorial I uploaded to my YouTube channel. Thank you so much for watching my videos and welcome to all my new subscribers there and here on the blog as well. Granny square blanket & knitting tutorialThis weekend I finished knitting my Musselburgh hat. I enjoy this hat every day from the moment I finished it. it feels much much nicer after blocking. knitting tutorialWhile I was making my decreases rounds for the crown shaping I thought why not making a new knitting tutorial. E helped me locate the tripod up above my hands and I recorded myself for the new knitting tutorial.

In this video I show you how I switch from a circular needle to work on five double pointed needles when there are less and less stitches in the round. It’s something I knew my weekly knitters would find helpful and something that I needed when I was a beginner. I hope you’ll find it helpful as well.

One of my YouTube subscribers left a comment on this video recommending me to watch the An Italian Knitter podcast on YouTube. She wrote: You have very similar presence on camera 🙂 You can imagine, I was VERY curious! It is always interesting to know how people see me from the other side of the camera roll. So I went to watch the lovely Francesca and enjoyed her podcast so much that I thought of recommending it to you as well. I find that my knitting and crochet time is even better while watching a fellow knitter/ crocheter on YouTube. So if you haven’t already done so, please try and let me know what you think. I hope you enjoyed today’s blog and that you like joining me on my new granny square blanket and on my new knitting tutorial, xxMo
