Slip some Bernat Suede-ish on your hook!

I’ve had some Bernat Suede-ish sitting on my shelves for a little bit now, waiting for just the right inspiration to strike. I knew I wanted to make a summery bag… And when I sat down with the yarn, this design just flew right off my hook!

I originally started working it up in one color, but soon realized it needed to be this bright sunny yellow for me. I loved the suggestion of Sunshine Smile from reader Julia E., but alas that name was taken, so Honey Moon it is – get it? Honeycomb colorway, shaped like a moon… Of course, Bernat Suede-ish comes in a great variety of colors, so you can get the look that’s right for you!

Pick Your Handle(s), Pick Your Style!

The Honey Moon Bag is designed to be versatile and worn however you like. With a shorter strap, it makes a great shoulder bag. Go longer and it’s a crossbody – with a nod to how everyone is wearing their fanny packs these days as well. By adding metal rings to the tabs, you can switch out the handles every day, to fit your needs!

NOTES:

This pattern is made in two identical pieces. But don’t break your yarn when you’ve finished the second piece!

If you would like to block your bag, I recommend doing so prior to assembly.

If you prefer the “WS” of the bag to the Right Side, then put that on the outside – make it your own!

Assembly:

  1. With RS facing out and WS together, use stitch markers to match up stitches along the curve. Be sure not to attach the 7 sts of each Tab. Tabs should be at opposite ends.Honey Moon Bag - Free Crochet Pattern on Moogly
  2. Continuing with active loop from Piece 2, sc through both layers of the bag, along the curve. Break the yarn and finish off.
  3. Cut 2 pieces of yarn, each approximately 24″ long.
  4. Fold the tabs over the rings or over your handle (depending on chosen handle’s style) towards the opposite side of the bag. Use the yarn pieces to whipstitch each tab along opposite side. Attach handle to rings if needed.Honey Moon Bag - Free Crochet Pattern on Moogly
  5. Optional: Line the bag with fabric if desired.
