The Crochet Dragon Breasted Cowl is a similar pattern to the Mermaid Cowl but updated to 2023. The original pattern was from 2011.
Using 5 mm / H/8 hook and the latest Caron Cinnamon Swirl Cakes in Maitai. If you wish to change the size, the pattern has a multiple of 7 chains.
I used just 1 cake for this design. There are 8 layers of scales in this version. The original had 9.
There is an added round that isn’t on the mermaid. The tutorial version will show you how to do the last round. I also sew up the edge to span 3 scales, creating its unique shape.
The last round has just single crochet around as if it were the double crochet to start a new layer.
Yarnspirations originally designed this pattern. I’ve updated it with more modern yarn as 12 years have passed since the original. Time is flying.
