
I love taking a simple snack—like a Twinkie—and transforming it into something playful and unexpected. These Chill Pill Twinkies are a semi-homemade, whimsical treat that’s easy to make and perfect for parties, gifts, or just a fun baking project. They turned out even better than I imagined and are a great example of how a little creativity can make a classic snack feel new again.

Chill Pill Twinkies
Total Time: 35 mins + 1 hour dry time
Supplies
2 pounds powdered sugar
1 tablespoon meringue powder
1/2 cup water (plus more if needed)
1/4 cup light corn syrup
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
Pink food coloring
10–15 Twinkies
Wilton alphabet sugar sheets or black royal icing
Directions
1. In the bowl of a stand mixer fitted with the paddle attachment, combine the meringue powder and powdered sugar. Add water, corn syrup, and vanilla. Mix on low until just combined, then increase to high and beat for 3–5 minutes. Add more water if the icing is too thick.
2. Divide the icing in half. Tint one portion pale pink and leave the other white.
3. Prepare two baking sheets and a cooling rack. Place the cooling rack over the first baking sheet and arrange the Twinkies on the rack.
4. Spoon a heaping amount of white icing over one half of each Twinkie, letting excess drip onto the baking sheet.
5. Move the cooling rack to the second baking sheet and repeat with the pink icing on the other halves, allowing excess to drip off.
6. Let the first coat set for a couple of minutes, then repeat one or two more times until you achieve the desired thickness. You can reuse icing that dripped onto the baking sheets.
7. While the icing is still wet, gently place sugar letters on each Twinkie. Alternatively, pipe letters with black royal icing using a small round tip. Allow the icing to set for about an hour, until firm to the touch.
