In senior year English I was assigned a poem, and mine was the only one that rhymed. I still laugh about it—rhymes have always stuck with me. That old-school love of rhyme inspired this project: the DIY flair chair. It’s a simple way to personalize an upholstered office chair using patches you love. Perfect for dorm rooms, home offices, or anywhere a pop of personality is welcome.

DIY Flair Chair
Total Time: 30–60 Minutes
Supplies
Upholstered office chair
A selection of patches (see sources below)
Hot glue or E6000 adhesive (hot glue sets quickly; E6000 is extremely durable)
Directions
1. Choose the patches you want and lay out a basic plan. Place larger patches first so they anchor the design, then fill gaps with smaller ones.
2. Apply glue to the back of each patch and press it firmly onto the chair. If using E6000, hold each patch in place for 30–60 seconds to ensure a good bond. Allow adhesive to dry completely before using the chair.
3. Continue attaching patches until you achieve the look you want. You can add more patches over time, treating the chair like a wearable jacket that grows with you.

Enjoy the process—and feel free to add more patches as you discover new favorites.
