Have you ever wondered why plastic coolers rarely come in pink? I did, so I decided to give a plain cooler a colorful makeover. Using bright EasyCare paint colors, I transformed a $15 cooler into a throwback-inspired statement piece. The steps are simple and adaptable — you can choose any colors, pattern, or phrase you like. Below is a clear guide to recreate this fun project.

DIY Throwback Cooler Makeover
Total Time: 2 Hours (plus dry time)
Supplies
Cooler
White spray paint formulated for plastic (used here as a primer)
EasyCare paint in bright shades (examples used: Bright Blossom, Heroic, Irish Rose, Sherbert, Glam Goddess)
1″ letter stickers
Small and large paint brushes
Ruler
White paint pen (optional, for touch-ups)
Directions
1. Spray the entire outside of the cooler with white spray paint and allow it to dry completely. This creates a uniform base for the colors to sit on.
2. Find the center of the cooler and place letter stickers to spell your chosen phrase. Use a ruler to keep the letters straight and even.
3. Paint the bottom half of the cooler in your first color, covering the letters as well. Let the paint dry, and apply a second coat if needed.
4. Paint the top half of the cooler in a contrasting color. Allow it to dry and add a second coat if required.
5. Carefully peel off the letter stickers. If any paint bled under the stickers, touch up the edges with a white paint pen.
6. Add a playful pattern to the lid or top section — geometric shapes, zigzags, or random doodles give a fun 90s/retro vibe.
