When I first saw this celebration, I thought, “I want this party.” My birthday is in four weeks and I’d love a celebration like this. It isn’t a typical birthday—no big guest list or party favors—just a stay at a vibrant rainbow hotel, a colorful cake, a suitcase packed with surprises, and family time. The wonderfully creative Rubyellen of Cakies put the whole thing together for her daughter True’s sixth birthday. True wanted a hotel sleepover, and her mom delivered, turning it into something even more magical. The festivities took place at my dream hotel, The Saguaro in Palm Springs, and it all began with a suitcase: a party in a suitcase, to be exact.

Rubyellen began the Eloise-inspired stay by surprising True with a suitcase full of treats: streamers, party blowers, and a set of colorful birthday clothes to wear. The suitcase set the tone—playful, bright, and perfectly kid-centered.

While the kids splashed in the pool, Rubyellen staged a mini party back in the hotel room. She baked a rainbow cake before leaving home and finished assembling it on site. With streamers draped around the room and a few simple decorations, the atmosphere became festive and intimate. Kids find joy in small, thoughtful details, and for True this was everything she wanted for her birthday.

I’m already planning to book a stay at this colorful Palm Springs hotel — who’s bringing the streamers? For more photos and details from True’s big birthday, check Rubyellen’s original post on her blog.
