Okay, so August became the month of zipper pouches on Moogly – thanks to the debut of this amazing brand-new zipper product from Coats and Clark – available now on Yarnspirations!

“The Coats & Clark Yarn Zip features a loosely woven channel for easy yarn attachment, perfect for knitting, crocheting, and stitching projects. I was so excited when these came out, that I immediately ordered the whole set – and now I’ve ordered more! For the Tipsy Granny Zipper Pouch, I used the Black 9″ version. I sewed it in with more yarn –  the woven channel makes it easy to keep a nice straight line and genuinely takes away 90% of the trouble with zippers most crocheters have.

Learn to Crochet Short Rows

Red Heart All In One Granny Square yarn was specifically designed to create 5 color, 5″ granny squares with no breaking the yarn. But you don’t have to use it to make granny squares!

I’ve been eager to make a pattern using this yarn with short rows! Short row crochet is pretty easy – the only stitches and skills needed for this pattern are single crochet, back loop only, and single crochet decreases (sc2tog). Combined with a self-striping yarn, short rows create a dynamic, textured fabric that is very different from what you get from just working in standard rows and rounds. It leans and move in wedges – hence the name “Tipsy Granny.” And I love the way it turned out here!

The Tipsy Granny Zipper Pouch is about 9″ wide, and 6″ tall, and you should be able to get 3 out of each skein of the recommended yarn. This is a great size for school supplies, odds and ends, makeup, and could even be used as a little clutch! Lining is optional, but recommended if you’re going to add hooks or pencils. Add a simple wrist strap if desired, and you might find yourself making one to match every outfit…
