Block #19:
Linked Mosaic Crochet Heart Afghan Square
by Nicki’s Homemade Crafts
Above you can see the square that Nicki made. Below is my CAL square, in my 3 colors of Red Heart With Love! (I’m doing a stash buster, so these colors will change throughout the year. This is my second Navy one as I work through the rainbow! The white and light gray are being carried throughout.)

My Notes: The Linked Mosaic Crochet Heart Afghan Square will stretch your skills! This square is center out, and features a variety of techniques – as you might have guessed by the name. If you haven’t tried linked stitches or overlay mosaic before, this is the perfect time to learn! The pattern itself is easy to follow and sure to build your confidence!
Helpful Links and Tutorials: BLO – Back Loop Only, Magic Circle, Third Loop (Back Bar) Crochet, CSDC – Chainless Starting Double Crochet, STSC – Standing Single Crochet, Linked Double Crochet, and seamless join.
Sizing: To get the size just right, I ended up adding one more round of single crochet. But everyone’s gauge is different so be sure to measure as you go! Learn how to adjust for size HERE to ensure all your squares are the same size. Remember that the 12″ is measured across and up and down – not diagonally corner to corner.
What I Did:
I used a Susan Bates US-J, 6.0 mm Twist and Lock hook, and Red Heart With Love, and my color scheme was as follows (see pics for more info on placement):
When the pattern calls for Red: Light Gray
White: Navy
Green: White
This square required a mild blocking. I used the wet blocking method.
