Block #24:
X Marks the Spot Square
by Tiffany Tolbert
Above you can see the squares that Tiffany and her testers made in 3 colors. Below is my CAL square, in my 3 colors of Red Heart With Love! (I’m doing a stash buster, so these colors changed throughout the year. This is my third Boysenberry one as I finish up the rainbow! The white and light gray were carried throughout.)

My Notes: The X Marks the Spot Square a lovely square to get creative with! Tiffany has designed an easy-to-memorize pattern that is perfect for taking on the road. You decide the color changes for a truly unique piece. When you get to Rnd 8, try Rnd 9 as is – I didn’t trust it at first, thinking I needed another round. Nope, I got to size as written!
Helpful Links and Tutorials: Crossed Stitches, Front Post Stitches, Treble Stitches, and seamless join.
Sizing: I got to size as written, but she’s made this one super easy to adjust as needed – it’s built right into the pattern! Everyone’s gauge is different so be sure to measure as you go! Learn how to adjust for size HERE to ensure all your squares are the same size. Remember that the 12″ is measured across and up and down – not diagonally corner to corner.
What I Did:
I used a Susan Bates US-J, 6.0 mm Twist and Lock hook, and Red Heart With Love, and my color scheme was as follows (see pics for more info on placement):
Rnd 1: Boysenberry
Rnd 2: Light Gray
Rnd 3: Boysenberry
Rnd 4: White
Rnd 5: Boysenberry
Rnd 6: Light Gray
Rnd 7: Boysenberry
Rnd 8: White
Rnd 9: White
This square required a strong blocking. I used the wet blocking method.
