Hello, my beautiful friend! Today, I have a sweet, lil’ festive scarf to share with you. The adorable, crocheted Qanuk pocket scarf would make an amazing holiday gift… for others or yourself! I hope you’ll keep reading to learn all about it!
Qanuk was designed by Patricia Liefeld. When asked about the inspiration behind this design, Patricia said, “Who doesn’t love pockets? This simple two-row repeat scarf has two pockets that are made by using the waistcoat or knit stitch. The waistcoat stitch is a simple single crochet that looks like it’s knit. The Qanuk (pronounced ka-nook, meaning ‘snowflake’ in Yupik), or snowflake motif, are made by yarn color changes, carrying the unused yarn along the backside of the work.”
This is an Intermediate level pattern and is for those who feel comfortable with crocheting and have made a few projects, using various skills and techniques. Skills/concepts include Waistcoat stitch and increase and decrease stitches. This pattern includes written and charted instructions.
The Qanuk scarf is made with our yummy Buttery Worsted yarn, which is a dreamy soft, 2-ply worsted weight yarn that’s boingy, bouncy, comfy, cozy, cushy, and cloud-like! It is unbelievably soft and perfect for snuggly blankets, cuddly accessories, and your favorite sweaters and other garments. Buttery Worsted is made from 100% Superwash Merino Wool and has 224 yds/205 m per skein.
The sample shown here was made with our luscious All Seasons Green Buttery Worsted and Ghost Buttery Worsted yarn. The sample shown used approximately 613 yds/561 m, total: Color A) 579 yds/530 m and B) 36 yds/33 m. The scarf was designed to wrap around the neck at least once. The length can easily be shortened or lengthened. Adding length may require additional yarn.
