DIY Glitter Tassel Earrings: Step-by-Step Guide to Sparkling Jewelry

Glitter tassel earrings

Over the summer we had an amazing intern, Danielle. She was launching a jewelry business while preparing to begin a program at USC, and she kindly shared a tutorial for one of her favorite designs: glitter tassel earrings. Her shop, Muchacha Los Angeles, has since launched and this design is one of the prettiest, sparkly pieces you can make at home.

The materials she used — like silicone molds and pre-made tassels — make this DIY quick and approachable. These earrings are perfect for gifts or a festive New Year’s Eve look.

Total Time: 45 minutes (+ 24 hr dry time)

Supplies

Jewelry tools (flat or needle-nose pliers, round-nose pliers)
Craft casting epoxy (resin and hardener)
Silicone jewelry mold (oval or small shapes)
Jewelry glue suitable for metal and resin
Two flat post earring bases and two earring backs
Fine glitter of your choice
7–9mm jump rings
Small tassels (pre-made)
Measuring spoons and a cup reserved for craft use (not for food)

Directions

1. Sprinkle an even layer of glitter into each cavity of the silicone mold.
2. Working in a well-ventilated area, mix equal parts of resin and hardener according to the manufacturer’s instructions. Accurate ratios are essential; incorrect mixing can leave the resin tacky and prevent proper curing.
3. Pour the mixed epoxy into the mold over the glitter, filling each cavity as needed.
4. Allow the resin to cure undisturbed for 24 hours. Faster-setting epoxies exist, but quality and finish can vary.
5. Once fully hardened, gently remove the charms from the silicone mold.
6. Attach the flat earring posts to the back of each resin charm using jewelry glue. Let them set and dry completely following glue instructions.
7. Use pliers to open a jump ring, thread it through the hole in the charm, then close the ring securely.
8. Open a second jump ring and add three tassels to it, then link that ring to the ring attached to the charm. Close the ring and check that all connections are secure. Your earrings are finished!

If you prefer to buy rather than DIY, Danielle offers similar styles in her shop. She sells a range of earring designs and ready-made pairs if you’d like a professional finish without the crafting time.

Danielle was a wonderful intern and a dedicated maker. It’s inspiring to watch someone balance school, an ambitious program, and a growing creative business. Leave her some encouragement—she’s doing great work and I’m excited to see where her jewelry line goes next.
