How to Make DIY Disco Sunglasses: Step-by-Step Craft Guide

Disco sunglasses

Hi — it’s Hannah from Homemade Banana with a fun, shiny DIY you can finish in an afternoon. I’ve been wearing my flared jeans a lot lately and wanted sunglasses with equal retro flair. I took inspiration from the disco ball and turned a simple mirrored pair of shades into a sparkling statement piece.

The process is straightforward: start with mirrored sunglasses and use a clear, strong adhesive to attach small mirrored mosaic tiles. With a little patience and some careful placement, the result is a bold, glittering pair of disco sunglasses that elevate any outfit.

Total time: About 1 hour hands-on, plus 24 hours for full curing.

Supplies

  • Sunglasses with mirrored lenses or frames
  • Small mirrored mosaic tiles
  • Clear industrial-strength adhesive (E6000 or similar)

Directions

1. Apply a small dab of glue to the back of a mirror tile, then gently set it onto the sunglasses. Allow the glue to tack for a minute or two so the tile holds position.

2. Press each tile firmly into place and hold for about 30 seconds to ensure good contact. If glue seeps out from beneath a tile, wait a few minutes until it becomes tacky, then remove excess with a toothpick or your fingernail to avoid smearing.

3. Work from the center of the brow bar outward along the top of the frames, using the frame edge as a guide. Repeat along the bottom edge. Continue by filling in the sides of the lenses, overlapping tiles slightly where needed for coverage.

4. Finish by adding tiles to the arms of the sunglasses. Once all tiles are in place, allow the glue to cure completely for about 24 hours before wearing.
