My Notes: The Mosaic Ziggy Zag Square is designed for us by Erin Toews on Juniper and Oakes! This is a beautiful mosaic crochet square worked from the center out. It’s a beautiful example of the overlay mosaic technique, and a great way to try it out if you’re new to mosaic! You can create this amazing design with super simple stitches – it’s all chains, single crochet, and double crochet. The trick is where you work those stitches – in the front or back loop! Video tutorials are linked below – you can do this, even if you’re newer to crochet! Be sure to measure as you go with this one – you may need to eliminate rows. But this is very easy to do with this pattern, at pretty much any point!
Helpful Links and Tutorials: Crochet Abbreviations, Magic Circle, FLO and BLO, and seamless join.
Sizing: My gauge was very different from the designer’s, so I skipped Rounds 19 through 23, and finished with Round 24 as written – that got me to 12 inches. But everyone’s gauge is different, so be sure to measure as you go! Learn how to adjust for size HERE to ensure all your squares are the same size. Remember that the 12″ is measured across and up and down, not diagonally/corner to corner.
What I Did:
I used a Susan Bates US-J, 6.0 mm Twist and Lock hook, and Red Heart With Love, and my color scheme was as follows (see pics for more info on placement):
Color B: Black
Rnds 1 – 5: Cornsilk
Rnds 7 – 11: Boysenberry
Rnds 13 – 17: Mallard
Rnds 19 – 23: Skipped for Size
Rnd 24: Black
This square barely required a mild blocking, so I used the wet blocking method

In addition, there are videos linked in the notes for specific stitches and techniques that may help you with the pattern.
