A few years ago my grandma gave me a set of vintage Blendo glassware and I fell in love with the style. I decided to recreate a similar look with inexpensive plain glasses and spray paint. While these DIY pieces don’t carry the same history as vintage glass, they’re a fun way to get bold, custom colors you can’t find in stores.
I partnered with Palm Breeze for this project because their bright, tropical flavors inspired the color palette. These ombré glasses are perfect for a girls’ night — colorful, cheerful, and easy to make.

Palm Breeze is a sparkling flavored malt beverage available in three tropical-inspired flavors. One of our favorites is Red Ruby Citrus — its bright pink tone inspired the shades used for these glasses. Using the drink as color inspiration helps you craft a coordinated look for parties or casual get-togethers.

DIY Ombré Glassware
Total Time: Active: 30 Minutes · Total: 24 Hours
Supplies
Plain glassware
Non-toxic spray paint (test a brand that adheres to glass)
Painter’s tape
Newspaper or cardboard to protect your work surface
Directions
1. Decide how much clear glass you want at the rim — at least two to three inches is recommended so the painted area stays away from where people drink. Apply painter’s tape at that height and cover the entire top and inside of the glass so no paint gets inside.
2. Shake the spray paint can well and, holding the can a moderate distance away, aim the nozzle at the bottom of the glass. Spray the bottom two inches first and gradually move upward in light passes; this creates a soft fade upward for an ombré effect. Rotate the glass as you spray until the bottom area is opaque and the fade looks even.
3. Allow the paint to dry fully according to the paint manufacturer’s instructions, then carefully remove the tape. Wipe any residual dust with a damp paper towel and let the glasses cure for the recommended time before use.
Care notes: These glasses are hand-wash only. Like any painted glassware, handle gently to preserve the finish.

Tip: Palm Breeze’s Pineapple Mandarin Orange flavor creates a warm, sunset-like effect in pink or purple glasses — a fun way to vary the mood and color scheme for different evenings.
