DIY Flamingo Lawn Sleigh: Festive Yard Decor Tutorial

Flamingos and a mini pink car

We did it — we flocked someone’s lawn for Christmas. While inflatables aren’t my thing, I absolutely love flamingo decorations. With my sister-in-law’s birthday so close to the holidays and a little inspiration from a flamingo-themed card, I knew a flamingo sleigh would be the perfect surprise. She loves Palm Springs as much as I do, so this felt like the right fit.

I’d been wanting to flock a lawn for ages, and this project was the perfect opportunity. It was a big hit, and below I’m sharing exactly how I pulled it off so you can recreate it.

DIY Lawn Flamingo Sleigh

Total Time: About one hour

Supplies

5–8 lawn flamingos (depending on the space)
Mini Santa hats (one per flamingo)
A small sleigh or toy car
Ribbon, twine, or other trim for reins
Presents or wrapped empty boxes for display
Extra holiday decor or garlands as desired
Museum wax for temporary attachment or a hot glue gun for permanent hold

Directions

1. Assemble the flamingos by attaching their legs and prepare the sleigh or toy car.
2. Choose the exact spot on the lawn where the sleigh will sit and place it there.
3. Insert the flamingos into the ground in pairs, spacing each pair a few inches apart.
4. Secure a mini Santa hat to each flamingo’s head using museum wax for a temporary hold or hot glue for a permanent option.
5. Connect the flamingos with ribbon or trim, leaving loose loops between them so the reins hang naturally. Tie the ends to the sleigh or car.
6. Fill the sleigh or car with presents or wrapped boxes and add a greeting card if you like.
7. Add any extra decorations you want, then step back and wait for the recipient to discover the surprise.

Another item checked off my bucket list! Big thanks for the excuse to make it happen. Honestly, this flamingo sleigh beats inflatable lawn decorations by a mile.
