It’s graduation season and, in my world, it’s birthday season too, so here’s an easy dual-purpose DIY: giant balloon messages. I’m on a giant-theme kick this year, and these oversized balloons make a bold statement. Since you all love balloons, they’re the perfect way to celebrate graduations, birthdays, or any special occasion. For a graduation I used large numbers; for other events spell out a short message. Each letter or number attaches easily to the balloon’s string and creates memorable decor or a thoughtful gift.
Supplies needed:
– Poster board
– Scissors
– Ruler
– Tape
– Balloons (I used 36″ round balloons)
How to make them:
1. Cut your letters or numbers from poster board. Mine were about 15″ tall, but size them to suit your balloon and space.
2. If you prefer precision, print letters or numbers in a font you like and use them as templates. You can also freehand the shapes; I used a ruler to keep consistent widths.
3. Attach each letter or number to the balloon string with tape. That’s it. For extra flair, add thin streamer strips along the string—these won’t weigh the balloon down. Secure the balloon by taping it to the ground or tying it to furniture like a table or chair.
These giant balloon messages make an impressive party “wow” and are a fresh alternative to the usual balloon bouquet that signals the celebration at a house. They’re simple to make, highly visible, and easy to customize for any event.
