Make this Halloween memorable with a playful ice cream cone costume. It’s simple to assemble, comfortable to wear, and mostly uses items you likely already own. Perfect for trick-or-treating, parties, or any costume event on the 31st.

Supplies for a DIY Ice Cream Cone Costume

White shirt (a scalloped or textured top works nicely)
Tan dress or skirt to serve as the cone
Cardstock in rainbow colors (or pre-made craft “sprinkles”)
Fishing line and sewing needle (or a hot glue gun)
Scissors
Red balloon for the cherry
Clear tape
Stretchy headband or bobby pins to secure the cherry

Step-by-Step Tutorial

1. Cut out sprinkle shapes from your colored cardstock. Make enough to circle the neckline of your shirt. Arrange them in the pattern you like and take a quick photo so you remember the layout.
2. To keep the shirt reusable, sew the sprinkles on. Thread a needle with fishing line, knot the end, push the thread through the shirt and cardstock sprinkle, then back through both layers twice and knot to secure. Repeat until all sprinkles are attached. If you prefer, use hot glue for a faster, permanent option. Optionally, add criss-cross lines on the tan skirt with fabric paint or markers to mimic a waffle cone pattern.
3. Create the cherry by cutting a long stem shape from red cardstock. Partially inflate the red balloon and tie it. Fold about half an inch of the cardstock stem under and tape that tab to the top of the balloon. If the stem needs extra support, tape a small strip of cardstock between the balloon and the stem to brace it.
4. Attach the balloon cherry to your head by slipping the balloon’s tied tail under an elastic headband. It typically holds well this way. Alternatively, secure it with bobby pins or tie it to a headband for added stability.
