Ever wanted to send someone something that feels more special than a card but less formal than a full gift? I had that exact dilemma when a friend shared some very exciting news. The solution I landed on is simple, fun, and handmade: “Congrats… in a box!” It’s a small, unassuming package that reveals a cheerful garland and a burst of confetti when opened. The result feels celebratory without being over the top. This idea also works beautifully as a party invitation—swap “Congrats” for “Surprise” or write event details on each circle. No matter how you use it, the recipient will be delighted to open a tiny box and find a big dose of joy inside.

Supply list:
Colorful paper
Hole punch
Circle punch (about 1″–2″ diameter) or scissors to cut shapes
Marker
Double-sided tape
Baker’s twine
Small box (a jewelry-sized box works well)
How to make it:
1. Punch out circles for your bunting and lots of small circles for confetti. You’ll need two larger circles for each letter and two extra larger circles to secure the twine to the box. The amount of confetti is up to you—the more you add, the bigger the burst when the box is opened. Scrapbook paper works well; tissue paper also gives a great lightweight effect.

2. On the larger circles, write the letters for your message, writing each letter twice so you can sandwich the twine between matching circles.

3. Use double-sided tape to sandwich the twine between pairs of circles, spacing the letters how you like. Leave a few extra inches of twine at each end so you can attach it inside the box.

4. Attach the bunting inside the box by taping each end of the twine to the inside bottom and inside of the lid. Cover each taped end with the extra larger circles so the attachment looks neat and keeps the twine secure.

5. Add a personal message to the bottom of the box if you like. Fold the twine so the garland sits inside, then cover it with confetti so the garland is hidden until the box is opened. The confetti will spill out as the lid lifts, creating a joyful reveal.

6. Close the box, wrap it, and send it off. It’s also worth practicing the reveal a couple of times—this is the kind of project that’s legitimately fun to open again and again.

This idea also makes a fantastic gender reveal: use a plain white box outside and fill the inside with either pink or blue confetti for a dramatic, memorable moment.

Party invite, gender reveal, or a thoughtful congrats—you can easily adapt this project for any celebration. It’s quick to make, affordable, and guaranteed to bring a smile.
