Beautiful and Simple Crochet Pocket Planter Vase – A Minimalist Crochet Pattern

CROCHET POCKET PLANTER

This lovely hoop planter may speak to you minimalist decorators. I saw something similar at West Elm (not crochet, just a hoop with a small, thin place for greenery). Of course we all know it would look lovelier made of yarn. ❤️

Truthfully, it was almost just as fun to find little picks and bits of greenery to place inside than it was to crochet it!
You may have a few things lying around, but of course, it’s always fun to head to the craft store and find some things to put together. The little leftover bits from other floral projects work perfectly for this hoop planter because the stems need to be fairly short to fit, anything really bit or bulky will need to be pared down anyway.

This faux eucalyptus looked so lovely!

ABOUT THIS PATTERN:

This pattern was designed to be a quick win! You will hold 2 strands used together to make your crochet hoop planters, this also gives your projects a bit chunkier stitch definition and a bit more integrity. This pattern uses simple stitches and is suitable for an advanced beginner. I have provided a gauge, but keep your hoop close by and make sure it will be a snug fit. If you find it’s a bit loose, you may need to size down your hook. It needs to be a snug fit in order to achieve a functional finished project.

Dishie (#4 Worsted 100% Cotton)
8″ Wooden Hoop
Hot glue gun
– Various small bits of greenery, flowers, etc.

CONSTRUCTION:

Pull your fabric onto the hoop and run a thick line of glue about 1″ – 2″ long on the wooden hoop. Press the top 1″-2″ of your pocket in place (since it’s a circle, the placement does not matter).
Hold in place until the glue cools.

To glue the other side, you will need to be a bit more careful.

Pull the crochet piece firmly on the hoop so it stretches around the wood tightly.

Carefully fold down the top of the unglued side of the pocket and add a thick line of glue about 1″ – 2″ long on the wood. Quickly fold back the fabric and make sure to pull it tight onto the wooden hoop while the glue is hot so it’s very tight and taut.

Hold in place firmly until the glue cools.

TIP: When adding thicker/bulkier pick like eucalyptus, I recommend cutting away any extra bulk from the
bottom/stem so it can be placed in the pocket without creating a bulge in the fabric.
