Queens Crossbody Bag – Free Crochet Pattern on Moogly

Queens Crossbody Bag - Free Crochet Pattern on Moogly

The Queens Crossbody Bag is a handy little tote or pouch, that combines my newest stitch pattern and most unusual construction method! I had a lot of fun teaching this bag to my workshop in England, and now I’m excited to share it all here with you. This free crochet pattern on Moogly features Lily Sugar’n Cream!

A Crossbody Bag to Visit the… King?

I was lucky enough to teach crochet workshops on a trip to England with Craftours in October 2024, and this was the pattern I designed for the trip! (Click HERE to sign up for info on upcoming trips!) When I design a new pattern, the name comes last, so I did a bit of free association… We have a crossbody bag, with a stitch pattern that makes little pluses or crosses. For a trip to the UK, that left from NYC. Where Queens Crossing is! And of course, England just lost their Queen… Queens Crossbody Bag it is. And you’ll feel like you’re queen of the world when you make your own? Let’s go with it.

I used Lily Sugar’n Cream for the trip kits because the skeins were the right size, and there are many beautiful colors to choose from! However, you could use any worsted or aran weight yarn you like – the Queens Crossbody Bag would look amazing in Bernat Maker too!

So How Did the Workshop Go?

It was amazing! It’s always a little nerve-wracking to introduce a new pattern, and teach it live doubly so! But I couldn’t have asked for a better group of crocheters. Some got it right away from the written instructions, some were helped by the chart I drew during class, and others needed to see me demonstrate it a few times, and give it a little practice. But we all got there! Here are some of their fantastic WIPS!

Queens Crossbody Bag - Collage 1

So below you’ll find written instructions, as well as a (much neater) hand-drawn chart of the main stitch pattern. And there are right and left-handed video tutorials linked below (debuting October 24, 2024) – so you can follow along at your own speed!

I really appreciated the feedback I got in class, and I’ve used that to try to make this pattern even better! I hope you enjoy making the Queens Crossbody Bag!

Crochet Abbreviations

Crochet in the third loop of half double crochet

Seamless Finishing

Special Stitch:

WTr (Woven Treble): Yo twice, working in front of ch sp in row below and behind ch sp in second row below, insert hook in unworked st in third row below. (You may find it helpful to pull this stitch forward so that no ch sps obstruct it.) Yo and pull up a loop, [yo and pull through two loops] three times. Make sure not to enclose or work over any of the ch sps when making this st.

NOTES:

Keep a stitch marker in the first and last hdc st of each row to help keep track of where you are in the repeat.

The slip stitches in the Second Panel of the bag are all worked into Row 4 of the Sides of the Bag. Their purpose is to join the Panel to the Sides. Do not crochet into those sl sts – just the 25 sts starting and ending with hdc.

To change colors at the end of a row, finish the last stitch of the row by working the last yo with the new color.
