Today’s post shares a cheerful DIY idea perfect for Mother’s Day: a fresh flower envelope garland filled with love notes. I was invited to join Martha Stewart’s 12 Months of Martha program and received a box of craft supplies, including a handy mini scoring board with an envelope guide. That tool made envelope-making quick and easy, and I used the envelopes as pockets for a floral garland that’s both decorative and sentimental.

Supplies you’ll need:
– Scrapbook paper or cardstock
– Martha Stewart Crafts Mini Scoring Board (or pre-made envelopes)
– Fresh flowers (I used white ranunculus)
– Twine
– Scissors
– Ruler
– Hot glue
– Love notes, confetti, or small tokens to fill the envelopes
If you don’t have a scoring board, use pre-made envelopes or follow one of the many envelope tutorials available online.
How to make the envelopes: Cut cardstock into the square sizes indicated by an envelope guide or template. Line the square up with the guide and score the fold lines. Trim the small triangles where indicated to form the envelope flaps. If you prefer a rounded bottom instead of a point, simply snip off the point before folding.

Assemble each envelope by applying glue along the side tabs of the bottom flap and folding it up to secure. The scoring board also makes matching card sizes simple if you want to tuck handwritten notes inside.

Fill each envelope with confetti, short love notes written by family members, or small coupons and tokens—ideas mom can redeem for favors or a relaxing break. Arrange a mix of sentiments and little surprises to make opening each envelope a delight.

Prepare your flowers by trimming the stems right below the bloom so the flower sits flat. Apply a small amount of hot glue to the back of each bloom and press it onto the front of the envelope where you’d like it to sit. Fresh flowers added the morning of the event will look their best.

String a length of twine across your workspace and close each envelope over the twine, securing the back with a small piece of tape so the envelopes stay in place. Space them evenly and alternate sizes or paper patterns for visual interest.

Hang the garland where Mom will see it first thing on Mother’s Day. She can open each envelope throughout the day to discover notes, little treats, and bursts of confetti for playful surprises.

Tips and variations: Prep envelopes and notes ahead of time and attach fresh flowers the morning of the celebration to keep blooms vibrant. For long-distance family members, create a paper-flower version and mail the garland or ship individual envelopes. This concept also works beautifully for bridal showers, baby showers, or birthdays—have guests add a note for the guest of honor.
