It’s time for another set of holiday streamers. After the popular Valentine’s Day and St. Patrick’s Day versions, a red, white and blue garland felt perfect for the Fourth of July. These star streamers are simple to make and look festive everywhere—hung on a wall, used as a table runner, or tied to chairs. I especially love mixing them with a fringed patriotic garland for extra texture and movement. Decorating for Independence Day has never been easier or more cheerful.

How to Make a 4th of July Star Garland
Supplies:
- Red, white and blue crepe streamers
- Computer paper for a star template
- Scissors
- Pencil
Directions:
Start by making a star template about 1.5 inches across at its widest point. An easy way is to pull up a star on your computer, print or trace it onto computer paper, and cut the paper template. Cut a length of streamer and fold it accordion-style so the folded width is slightly narrower than your template.
For a horizontal garland (like the first photo), place the template on the folded streamer with the two side points slightly overhanging the edge. Trace and then cut the shape, keeping those overhanging points attached so the star stays connected along the fold. When you unfold it, you’ll have a string of connected stars.

To make a vertical garland, fold your streamer to a height slightly smaller than the star. Position the template so the top point and the two lower points hang over the edge before tracing. Cut the shape while keeping the overhanging points attached. When opened, the stars will remain connected vertically, creating a cascading effect.

Unfold your cut pieces carefully. Any scraps make great confetti for tables or party favor bags.

Hang the garland wherever you want a festive touch—string it across a mantel or wall, drape it along a table edge, or loop it on chair backs for an instant patriotic accent.

These garlands are light, inexpensive, and easy to customize—mix colors, vary star sizes, or layer horizontal and vertical strands for dimension.

So many ways to decorate with just a few supplies. Whether you want a subtle nod to patriotism or an all-out festive display, these star streamers make a big impact for very little cost.
