A few days ago I bought a bag of hot pink balloons on impulse at the 99 Cent Store. Because why not? I couldn’t wait to use them, so I created a giant balloon heart. Balloons are just so much fun, and turning them into an oversized heart felt absolutely delightful. I’m smitten with how it turned out and I plan to adapt this idea in other ways. For now, this is a simple and cheerful craft perfect for Valentine’s Day.

Even the uninflated balloons looked irresistible.

Supplies:
– 19 latex balloons (I used 9″ hot pink balloons. You can buy them pre-filled with helium or inflate them yourself.)
– Fishing line or clear thin string
– Clear scotch tape
Note about helium: There is currently a limited helium supply in many areas. If you plan to have your balloons filled for you, call ahead to party stores or smaller retailers to confirm availability. Dollar stores or specialty party shops may be more likely to have helium on hand.
If your balloons are not already filled, inflate them. Small disposable helium tanks are sold at party stores and some big box retailers—one inexpensive tank typically fills around 30 11″ balloons. After inflating, tie each balloon with the fishing line or clear string so you can secure them in place.

To form the heart, tape each balloon to the floor with clear tape at varying heights and positions. You’ll build the shape by placing balloons so they overlap and create the outline of a heart.

Start with the bottom point of the heart—the lowest balloon should sit slightly forward. Each balloon after that should be positioned a bit behind the previous one so they naturally overlap and form the curved sides. Make sure you leave enough space away from the wall so the layering works.

Step back occasionally to assess the shape. Trim any excess string and adjust balloon positions as needed until the heart looks balanced and full.

That’s it—giant hearts are simple and make a big impression. This project is easy: pick up balloons, inflate them, and tape them into a heart shape on the floor. Kids (and adults who are kids at heart) will be thrilled to wake up to this on Valentine’s Day.
