Hello and happy Monday! I’m Hannah from Homemade Banana, and today I’m sharing an easy DIY that adds a burst of color to your shoe collection. After spotting bold platform sneakers on runways last season, I wanted a wearable, everyday version. Pride month felt like the perfect moment to bring this rainbow idea to life.
I simplified the runway look so it’s practical for daily wear while keeping the playful flair. Using simple white faux-leather platform sneakers, acrylic paint, and painter’s tape, you can create crisp, colorful stripes along the sole. This is a relaxing project to tackle during a show or podcast, and the finished shoes are guaranteed to make you smile with every step.

DIY Rainbow Platform Sneakers
Total Time: 2 Hours
Supplies
White platform sneakers
Paint brush
Acrylic paint in rainbow colors + metallic for accents
Ruler
Painter’s tape
Directions
1. Remove the laces so they don’t get paint on them while you work.
2. Measure the height of the sneaker platform and divide it by the number of stripes you want. On my pair I divided the sole into four equal stripes (about one centimeter each).
3. Use painter’s tape to mark the bottom stripe first, starting at the sole’s edge and working upward. Press the tape down firmly so paint won’t seep underneath.
4. Paint the first stripe and allow it to dry fully. Then measure, tape, and paint the next stripe. Repeat until all stripes on that shoe are complete.
5. Repeat the same process on the second shoe. Once all paint is dry, apply a second coat where needed for even coverage.
6. Add metallic paint to the side stripes and heel counter for a subtle shine, if desired. Let everything dry thoroughly.
7. Replace the laces and wear your colorful sneaks with pride.
