Cyn designed these mylar party streamers for the ceiling of our slumber party and I fell in love with how they update the classic fringe decor trend. They’re incredibly easy to make (grab a friend or two to speed things up) and can be hung vertically or draped across a ceiling for a dramatic effect. The result fills the room and transforms the atmosphere — let’s make it!

DIY Mylar Party Streamers
Total Time: Varies depending on coverage and helpers
Supplies
Mylar tissue paper (available at party stores)
Safety fencing (acts as the base grid)
Spray paint (choose a color that complements your mylar)
Rotary cutter
Cutting mat
Directions
1. Measure and cut the safety fencing to the desired width and length for the area you want to decorate. Decide whether you’ll hang it vertically or drape it across the ceiling.
2. Spray paint one side of the fencing to match or complement your mylar colors. Allow it to dry, then paint the other side and let it dry completely. Painting the fencing gives the whole installation a polished look when light hits the gaps.
3. While the fencing dries, prepare the mylar fringe. Unfold the mylar tissue sheets and, using a rotary cutter on a cutting mat, slice long strips about two inches wide along the length of each sheet. Cutting on a mat keeps edges straight and safe.
4. Cover the perimeter of the fencing first: fold a strip of mylar in half, thread the folded loop through a hole in the fencing, then pull the two loose ends through the loop and tighten so the fringe sits snug against the fencing. Repeat along the edges to create a full border.
5. Fill in the middle by adding additional streamers in rows. Work in small sections (2–3 feet at a time) so the coverage stays even. Space rows close together at the edges and add a few staggered strips in the center rows to achieve a lush, layered look.
6. When the entire piece is covered to your liking, trim any uneven lengths for a neat finish. To store, roll the finished fringe gently; it will compress without creasing the mylar too badly.
7. To install, hang the assembled fringe from the ceiling or wall using removable hooks or other appropriate hardware. You can create swooping drapes, straight panels, or a backdrop depending on your layout.
