We were able to chase her down for a short interview on her experience with the Maker’s Program as well as some other questions to get some insight on her creative process and what makes her needles and hooks truly excited to make!
Q 1. What inspired you to take part in the Blue Sky Fibers Maker’s Program?
A 1. That’s an easy one. I really, really love Blue Sky yarn, and I love designing – so it seemed like a perfect fit for me! Also, I can’t go without saying that the people at Blue Sky are all simply amazing and absolutely great to work with!
Q 2. What was your inspiration for your project?
A 2. One of the best things about working with a whole warehouse full of yarn is that even just the set ups can inspire you! I saw the blues together in the Jimmy Beans warehouse, and they looked amazing. I thought they needed to be put together in an official project, and a poncho just seemed correct!
Q 3. How would you describe your creative process?
A 3. Sometimes when I’m just doing mundane things, I get the picture of something spectacular in my head. After that, I rush to swatch as a way to figure out how to make it look the way I want it to look.
Q 4. How long have you been designing for?
A 4. I’ve been designing since I opened my yarn store, Mama Fig, in 2018. Dang, has it been three years already!?
Q 5. What’s your favorite type of project to design?
A 5. I like ponchos and shawls because they’re a great way to try out a bunch of different stitch patterns and color combinations. Their size also shows off the stitch definition of the yarn I use wonderfully – sometimes you just have to let the yarn shine!
Q 6. What’s your favorite thing about designing?
A 6. My favorite thing about designing is that I get to make things exactly how I want them to look. I also love the feeling of pride I get when I get to tell people “not only did I make this, but I designed and dreamt it up myself”!
