I get unreasonably excited whenever a DIY project includes fringe. When Brooke from Sucre Shop asked if I wanted to create a tutorial for their new tassel-ready ice cream spoons, I jumped at the chance. Sucre Shop’s colorful cutlery is already a favorite, and adding little tissue tassels turns ordinary spoons into something instantly festive. The nicest part: they now offer pre-drilled spoons, so all you need to do is make a tiny tassel and attach it. Perfect for parties, showers, or any celebration that could use a pop of color.

This project is a full-on color party.

Supplies
Drilled ice cream spoons from Sucre Shop
Tissue paper
Baker’s twine
Jump rings (two per spoon)
Rotary cutter or scissors
Cutting board
Make the tassel
Cut a rectangle of tissue paper 9″ long by 4.5″ wide for each tassel. Fold the tissue in half lengthwise so the short edges meet. Place the folded tissue on a cutting board and, using a ruler or the board’s grid as a guide, cut 1/4″ fringe strips from the open edges toward the fold, leaving the folded edge intact.

Unfold the fringed tissue and, starting at one end, roll it tightly into a small tube. Once rolled, fold the tube in half so all the fringe aligns and a small loop is formed at the top. If the folded tassel is too wide to pass through a jump ring, fold it again to slim the top.

Secure the tassel
Open a jump ring with your fingers or pliers and slip it through the loop at the top of the folded tassel. Close the jump ring. Wrap a short length of baker’s twine tightly around the top of the tassel, directly beneath the jump ring, and tie a small knot. Trim any excess twine for a neat finish.

Attach to the spoon
Slip a second jump ring through the drilled hole on the spoon. Connect the jump ring holding the tassel to the ring on the spoon, then close the rings securely. Repeat to make as many tasseled spoons as you like. They’re quick to assemble and make a big impact at dessert tables, ice cream bars, and summer gatherings.

Ready to celebrate? These mini tassels pair beautifully with matching decor—consider making a mini tassel garland for a coordinated look. Both projects are simple and fast, and they elevate even the smallest gatherings.
