I couldn’t resist one last mermaid-inspired DIY. I spotted a box of pre-made madeleines at the grocery store and immediately thought their shell shape would be perfect as pretty pink oyster shells — the same look that’s trending on everything from pool floats to pins and swimwear. If you’re planning a mermaid-themed pool party, pink shell madeleines are an easy, whimsical addition.

Pink Shell Madeleines
Ingredients
- Madeleines — two per shell. You can buy pre-made madeleines or make them from scratch.
- Pink edible color mist (spray)
- Frosting — store-bought or homemade
- Pink food coloring
- Sugar pearls or small gumballs — one per shell
Instructions
- Following the directions on the spray can, mist the tops of the madeleines with pink edible color. Let them air dry completely.
- Flip the madeleines and spray the undersides as well. Allow to dry thoroughly so the color sets without smudging.
- Divide your frosting into two portions. Tint one portion a pale pink and the other a brighter, hot pink.
- Spread a thin layer of hot pink frosting on the flat side of one madeleine. Spread a thicker layer of pale pink frosting on the flat side of another madeleine. Press the two together at the flat edges to form a shell shape.
- Place a sugar pearl or small gumball into the pale pink frosting before it sets to create a “pearl” inside the shell. Let the frosting set so the pieces hold together.
- If needed, trim a small slice from the bottom of the lower madeleine so the finished shell sits flat on a plate or serving tray.

I’m feeling more and more ready to embrace the mermaid life this summer — Ariel was my favorite Disney princess for a reason. These pink shell madeleines are a quick, charming treat that add a whimsical touch to parties, showers, or any sea-inspired gathering.
