I’m pulling out a trusty craft closet favorite to make another playful set of oversized rings today. Remember those giant gem rings? These conversation heart rings are made with a simple material you already own: hot glue. If you love quick, inexpensive DIY projects, this is a fun one to try—especially around Valentine’s Day.
They make adorable gifts for friends, coworkers, or anyone who enjoys a bit of handmade charm. Most of the supplies are probably already in your craft stash.

Supplies Needed
Silicone heart ice cube molds
Hot glue gun and glue sticks (two sticks make about three hearts)
Nail polish in your chosen colors
Red nail art pen or paint pen for lettering
Adjustable ring blanks

Step-by-Step Tutorial
- Set your hot glue gun to high heat and allow it to warm up fully. Fill the silicone heart mold by applying small adjacent dollops of glue, working around the shape. Avoid zig-zagging the glue, which can trap air and create holes. Aim to fill the mold about halfway up. Work quickly—the glue sets fast. When finished, the filled mold should look smooth and slightly domed.
- Allow the glue hearts to cool completely before removing them from the mold. They should pop out easily once set. Inspect the top for any air bubbles; if you find any, cover them with a small dot of nail polish and let it dry. Next, pour or puddle a small amount of nail polish into the center of each heart and spread it with the brush to create an even, glossy coat—this finish resembles resin charms. Let the polish dry thoroughly.
- Once the polish is fully dry, use a nail art pen to write short conversation-heart messages on each piece. Allow the ink to dry completely before handling further.
- Turn the heart over and position an adjustable ring blank in the center of the back. Apply hot glue over the ring blank and onto the heart to secure it. Let the glue dry and cool before wearing.
