DIY Frosted Animal Cookie Costume Ideas for Kids and Adults

A woman dressed up as a frosted animal cookie

After creating the tiny frosted animal cookie topper for our fro-yo costume last year, I scribbled “frosted animal cookie costume?” on my list for future Halloweens. Then readers started tagging their versions with #studiodiyincostume, and the cute frosted animal cookies became one of the trendiest treats. So it was only a matter of time before a full DIY frosted animal cookie costume made the cut.

This version is delightfully simple: a dress, pom-pom “sprinkles,” felt ears mounted on a headband, and you’re done. It’s quick, playful, and perfect for groups or solo costumes.

DIY Frosted Animal Cookie Costume

Total Time: One Hour

Supplies

Pink dress
Pom-pom “sprinkles”
Pink felt
Thin plastic headband
Hot glue gun
Scissors

Directions

1. For small ears (like the bear ears shown), cut four ear shapes from felt so you can glue them in pairs for sturdiness. For larger ears (like elephant ears), cut two larger shapes.
2. Glue pairs of felt ear shapes together so they hold their shape.
3. Attach one half of adhesive velcro dots to the backs of the pom-poms and the matching halves to the felt ears. This lets you arrange and remove the pom-poms easily.
4. Wrap the base of each ear around the plastic headband and secure with hot glue so the ears sit upright.
5. Arrange the remaining pom-poms on the dress and attach them using the same velcro method so they stay put but can be repositioned if needed.

This costume is ideal for groups because everyone can pick a different animal. Carrying a bag of the real cookies is a fun touch—plus, they make an irresistible prop and snack for the night.
