Hallelujah! It’s raining men — a perfect, playful costume idea for Halloween or any costume party. This DIY “Raining Men” outfit is inspired by the classic song and is simple to assemble with items you may already have on hand.
The concept is straightforward: attach printed faces of your favorite heartthrobs to lengths of clear fishing line, then suspend them from an umbrella so it looks like men are falling from the sky. Below are supplies and clear steps to recreate the look.

Supplies needed
- Printouts of heartthrob faces — two of each. Print one normally and one in mirror image so the two halves line up when glued together.
- Fishing line (clear)
- Sewing needle
- Scissors
- Glue stick
- Umbrella
- Dress
- Rain boots
- Trench coat

How to make an “It’s Raining Men” inspired costume
- Cut out the printed heads carefully so the edges are neat.
- Apply glue stick to the back of one cutout, lay a length of fishing line along the glue, then press a mirrored cutout on top to sandwich the line between the two printed sides. Repeat for each face. Varying the lengths creates a dynamic look, but if you’ll be outside in windier conditions, shorten the strings or attach some directly to the umbrella’s edge to reduce tangling.
- Thread a sewing needle and use it to stitch each fishing line to the umbrella canopy. Tie secure knots and trim any excess fishing line.
- Put on your dress, trench coat and rain boots, carry the umbrella, and you’re ready to go.
