After the warm response to the Valentine’s Day streamers, I recreated the idea with a St. Patrick’s Day twist. These shamrock streamers are quick and simple to make, so you can finish them in time for the holiday.
Supplies:
Streamer paper (green recommended)
Scissors
Pencil
Instructions:
1. Cut a length of streamer to the size you want. Fold it back and forth in an accordion (concertina) fold so several layers stack evenly.
2. Create a shamrock template if you like—remember a shamrock is three heart-shaped leaves with a small stem. The pattern should fit the folded stack in height and extend almost to the folded edge in width. For reference, my template measured about 1 3/4″ tall by 2″ wide. You can also draw the shape directly onto the folded streamer.
3. Place the template on the folded streamer and trace the shape. When tracing, allow the top halves of the left and right leaves to extend slightly past the edge of the folded stack—this keeps the pieces connected when you cut.
4. Cut out the shamrock shape through all layers of the folded streamer, leaving the small connecting tabs where the leaves extend over the edge so the pieces stay linked together.
5. Carefully unfold the streamer to reveal a chain of connected shamrocks. The accordion fold creates consistent, repeated shapes with minimal cutting.
Use ideas:
- String several chains together to make garlands for mantels, doorways, or party tables.
- Tape or staple them to chairs for festive seating decor.
- Create a photo booth backdrop by hanging multiple lengths closely together.
- For a playful touch, string a few across a child’s bedroom doorway so they have to walk through the streamers to celebrate the day.
