Last week I was juggling wedding planning and work when I got an email from the TODAY show asking if I could put together a few last-minute costumes inspired by the hosts. As a longtime TODAY fan, I was thrilled. They wanted quick, closet-friendly versions of memorable looks like Meredith’s Queen of England, Natalie and Savannah’s Laverne & Shirley, and Natalie’s Justin Bieber — not my usual food-themed creations, but a fun challenge all the same. I made each look using items you likely already have at home (or can borrow from a partner, parent, or friend).

My favorite was definitely the Queen of England. Any excuse to carry corgi balloons is a win, and styling a classic queen silhouette from everyday pieces was surprisingly simple: a tailored coat or dress in a bold color, a statement hat or fascinator, pearls, and a small handbag. The corgi element adds personality and humor, and it’s an easy prop to borrow or make in minutes. Thanks to Morgan for helping out as Shirley and even taking on the role of royal corgi handler for the shoot.

Each look was designed to be recreated quickly with items you already own: vintage-inspired dresses, denim and chambray for Laverne & Shirley, and simple streetwear for Justin Bieber. Small details — like hair, a prop, or a pair of sunglasses — help sell the character without requiring a full costume overhaul. The goal was always to keep these ideas accessible, budget-friendly, and fun to wear at the last minute.
