Take a trip back to the classic birthday parties of your childhood with a refreshed twist on a timeless favorite: Pin the Tail on the Donkey. Studio DIY teamed up with Kate of Striped Cat Studio to reimagine the game as Pin the Tail on the Piñata. Bright, playful, and perfect for summer gatherings, this version uses a colorful printable piñata and handmade tassel tails to add extra party flair.

This game is great for kids—and adults who never outgrew party games. Whether you’re hosting a backyard birthday or a casual summer get-together, the playful design and vibrant tassels make it easy to include everyone.

Supplies needed:
– Pin the Tail on the Piñata printable (printed on 11×17″ card stock and trimmed to size)
– Crepe paper or tissue paper
– Scissors or a rotary cutter
– Glue dots
– Masking tape
– Blindfold (for playing the game—not for crafting)
How to make the tassel tails: Cut crepe or tissue paper into 4″ x 8″ strips. Along one long edge, cut fringe up to about 1″ from the top so the fringe stays attached. Roll the fringed strip tightly and secure the unfringed end with a glue dot to form a tassel tail.

Once assembled, the tassels are ready to go—simple, colorful, and festive.

Game setup and play: Use masking tape to secure the printable piñata to a wall or fence at a comfortable height for players. Blindfold each player, hand them a tassel tail, spin them gently if desired, and let them try to place the tail as close to the intended spot on the piñata as possible. The closest placement wins!
