How To Make a DIY Pineapple Costume
Start by cutting all the leaf shapes from the green poster board using the printed template. Lightly curl the tips of each leaf by running your fingers along them to give them a natural curve. Once the leaves are ready, begin assembling the topper by gluing the largest leaves around the cardboard tube. Curl each leaf around the tube and hold until the glue sets so the base layer is fully covered.
Next, attach the second-largest leaves slightly below the top edge of the tube so they overlap and conceal the seams of the first layer. Continue layering leaves—each row using progressively smaller pieces—until you reach the bottom of the tube. Staggering and overlapping each layer creates the full, textured look of pineapple foliage.
To make the topper wearable, attach the finished tube to a headband or secure ribbon to the inside. For a headband, use a generous amount of hot glue to fix the tube in place. For ribbon, glue or tape a length of ribbon to each side inside the tube and tie under the chin or behind the head; tying under the chin keeps the topper more secure, while tying behind the head can be reinforced with bobby pins.
