These costumes are close to my heart. We’re big Disney fans, so we created a classic DIY Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse Halloween costume — and made it a family look by adding Mickey’s biggest fan.
These outfits are simple to put together and are guaranteed to be a memorable hit while trick-or-treating. Many pieces can come from your closet, making this a flexible family costume idea suitable for all ages.
Supplies Needed
Mickey Mouse
- Black shirt
- Red shorts
- Black tights
- Yellow moccasins or yellow sneakers
- Mickey ears headband
- White gloves
- White felt
- Hot glue
Minnie Mouse
- Black shirt
- Bloomers or shorts for under the skirt
- Blue skirt

DIY Mickey Mouse Costume Tutorial
Follow these simple steps to create a classic Mickey outfit:
- Cut two white ovals from felt and hot-glue them onto the front of the red shorts to form Mickey’s signature buttons.
- Cut six small black teardrop shapes from felt and hot-glue three onto each white glove to mimic Mickey’s glove details.
- Put the outfit together—black shirt, red shorts with white ovals, black tights, yellow shoes, white-gloved hands, and Mickey ears.
How To Make a Minnie Mouse Costume
Create Minnie’s look with these straightforward steps:
- Paint the foam half-sphere red and allow it to dry completely.
- Cut a strip of felt to form a rim around the sphere and hot-glue it in place to create the hat base.
- If you’re making a felt flower, cut the petals from white felt and add a yellow center. Attach the flower stem to the top of the red sphere with hot glue.
- If the hat is wider than the ear headband fabric, carefully separate the fabric around the ears (do not cut the hard headband) and reposition slightly so the hat fits between the ears. Secure the hat with hot glue.
- Cut white felt polka dots and glue them onto the blue skirt for Minnie’s classic look.
- Cut six elongated black teardrop shapes from felt and glue three onto each white glove to match the glove detailing.
- Assemble the outfit—black shirt, polka-dot skirt, bloomers, black tights, yellow shoes, white gloves, ear headband with hat and flower.
For the Mickey fan, most of the work is simply putting together the items: t-shirt, shorts, ears, fanny pack, and accessories like an autograph book and camera.
