Celebrity-Inspired DIY Easter Egg Ideas for a Stylish Holiday

Eggs with words and faces on eggs

I’m still smitten with the celebrity matching game we made for Valentine’s Day, and those charming illustrations from Nocturnal Paper begged for more on-camera personality. With Easter approaching, we turned those portraits into celebrity Easter eggs—complete with signature phrases, lyrics, and nicknames. The best part: tattoo paper makes this project ridiculously simple. Print, stick, and you’re done.

DIY Celebrity Easter Eggs

Total Time: 30 minutes

Supplies

Hardboiled or hollowed-out jumbo white eggs
Vinegar
Food coloring
Hot water
Cups or bowls (one per color)
Tattoo paper
Celebrity printables (these are intentionally printed backwards)
Paper towels

Directions

1. Print the celebrity printables on tattoo paper and apply the clear liner following the package instructions. It’s often easier to cut each tattoo separately and apply the liner to each piece rather than the entire sheet.
2. If you plan to dye eggs for the worded phrases, do that before applying faces. (Dyeing after applying faces will color the tattoo skin tones.) Mix 1 teaspoon vinegar, 15–25 drops of food coloring depending on desired intensity, and 1 cup of hot water in a cup or bowl.
3. Submerge an egg in the dye and let it sit 3–5 minutes for a richer color. Remove and allow to dry.
4. While dyed eggs dry, apply faces to the white eggs. Peel the clear liner from the tattoo and position the design face down on the egg. Press a damp paper towel over it and hold for at least 30 seconds.
5. Lift the paper towel gently; if the paper doesn’t slide off easily, press the damp towel for another 20–30 seconds and check again.
6. Once dyed eggs are fully dry, use the same method to adhere the phrase tattoos to them.
