DIY Blendo Manicure Guide: How to Create Blended Nail Art at Home

This DIY blendo ombré manicure was inspired by our DIY ombre glasses and turned out to be an easy, stylish way to get a faded color look on your nails. The effect blends a bold color into a neutral base, making it a playful choice for summer or any time you want a subtle statement. It’s also a perfect reason to pull out your favorite polishes and a makeup sponge.

Total Time: One Hour

Supplies

Clear nail polish
Color nail polish of your choice
Makeup sponge
Top coat

Directions

1. Start with a base coat of clear nail polish and allow it to dry completely.
2. Trim a small section of the makeup sponge—about 1/4″ wide and roughly the depth of your nail. Paint a thin layer of your chosen color onto the sponge.
3. Lightly dab the sponge over the tip of your nail, concentrating more polish toward the tip so the color fades naturally into the clear base. Repeat as needed to build the intensity, and continue on each nail. Focus on gradual layering rather than heavy single applications for a smooth fade.
4. Finish with a top coat to seal and smooth the manicure.

This look also works well as a rainbow blendo—try a different color on each nail if you’re feeling playful and want a brighter, multicolored ombré.
