DIY Gumball Drink Stirrers: Homemade Candy Cocktail Picks

I keep a prop closet and a prop bin full of odds and ends, and recently I discovered a stash of colorful gumballs tucked away. Since I’ve been on a drink-stirrer kick lately, I decided to turn those gumballs into modern cocktail stirrers. Within an hour I had pushed them onto skewers and created a simple, playful addition to drinks. The bright colors look great against black-and-white striped straws — I’m even considering making this part of my Christmas décor. For now, let’s jazz up some beverages.

Supplies:
Gumballs
Skewers
Awl or large sewing needle (clean)

This is an incredibly easy project. Use a clean awl or needle to poke a hole through one side of a gumball, then slide the gumball onto a skewer. That’s it.

To put two gumballs on a single skewer, poke a hole through the center of the first gumball — it can help to make two opposing holes that meet in the middle — then slide it onto the skewer and add the second gumball on top. Be careful not to make the holes too large; the skewer should fit snugly so the gumballs stay in place.
