Edible Glitter Chocolate Bars: How to Make and Use Real Edible Glitter

Pink chocolate with glitter

Glitter. Chocolate. Bars.

That’s it — simple and dazzling.

Let’s talk about these sparkly chocolate bars and the surprising world of edible glitter. Quick fact: not every product labeled “edible glitter” is actually safe to eat. I found this out while researching and wanted to share the discovery. Some glitters are simply labeled “non-toxic” or decorative and aren’t meant for consumption, so it’s important to know the difference.

I set out to make glitter chocolate bars because they felt like something that needed to exist, and I’m obsessed with the chocolate bar molds I used. The result was gorgeous. After finishing the bars, we discovered that one of the glitters we used was not truly edible but only non-toxic — meaning it’s decorative and shouldn’t be ingested. The good news: below you’ll find a curated list of actual edible glitters so you can recreate these bars safely.

Edible Glitter Chocolate Bars

Ingredients

  • White chocolate and/or candy melts
  • Edible glitter See the list below for recommended edible glitters. Use products labeled “edible” rather than those marked only “non-toxic” or decorative.
  • Chocolate bar molds

Instructions

  • Start by choosing your edible glitters. We like mixing fine shimmer dusts with chunkier glitter pieces and a few metallic stars for contrast.
  • For fine shimmer, spoon a small amount and lightly sprinkle it over the mold. Leave some areas bare so the chocolate shows through. For chunkier pieces, pinch and scatter until you’re happy with the coverage.
  • Melt your chocolate. A mix of white chocolate and candy melts gives good flavor and lovely pastel shades. Heat in a microwave-safe bowl in 30-second increments, stirring between intervals until smooth and fully melted.
  • Pour the melted chocolate into the mold right away, covering the glitter.
  • Chill in the refrigerator for 30–60 minutes to set. Remove from the molds and enjoy.

A note about color: the blue–purple shimmer in some of our bars came from a decorative “disco dust” that is not edible. When ordering glitters for edible projects, check that the product explicitly states “edible.” Avoid glitters labeled only as “non-toxic” or decorative, as those are not intended for consumption. With the right edible glitters, these bars are perfect for parties, gifts, or satisfying a glittery chocolate craving.
